The Angel of the North is a contemporary art sculpture created by Anthony Gormley and has been a popular attraction since its arrival in February 1998.  Standing at 20m tall and with a wingspan of 54m it towers over anybody stood at its base and overlooks splended views overlooking Gateshead.

Keen to see The Angel at its best we arrived to clear sky and viewed the scultpure from various viewpoints.  The artwork has been photographed so many times it was going to be near impossible to find an angle or location that wasnt already familiar.

In the process of  photography  I got talking to a local professional who has photographed the area extensively.  We agreed that people were needed in the scene to give it a true sense of scale and joked about the likelyhood of an early morning appearance of a dog walker , preferably dressed brightly in Red to contrast the green landscape. Immediately, he got on his mobile phone and had a brief exchange with the the caller.  Less than half an hour later a convoy of vehicles  arrived with a small group of people with changes of clothes in various colours stood awaiting his direction.

It was a priviledge to see such a well organised operation.  I don't doubt that if needed the dog would have appeared out of nowhere......all this at 6.30am .  Now THAT is Posh.
